thank you for reading this. this blog has not updated in so long that it is now dead. i have been busy with working, travelling, being in greenland, going to school and now interning in brussels, belgium. i might update again, when i get back to denmark. that would be in february. but it will be with a different concept and a most likely interesting things. let's see. until next time, take care and be happy.

there is definitely propaganda in iran which vilifies the bahais. there is rapports of anti-bahai organizations in iran (link). i find that scary and it saddens me to see it. i hope all arrested bahais in iran are at the best possible health. you can read the history of persecution here (link)

on happier note, i am really digging the french/british band the teenagers and the american/african band vampire weekend. check their music, its definitely worth a listen.

as of late, i have been finding all kinds of cool dj sets/mixtapes online. there are som really nice mixes out there and the best part of it is that they are free. some i found through searching for podcasts on iTunes. the one i will link to, i have found through formatmag.com (an online magazine that looks at music, art and clothing).

i dont know much about the djs, but their names are dj vibe & max barbaria, they have a few mixtapes up, but so far my favorite is their newest "love your family" (link). its a good mixture of mashup, rap & hip-hop and electronic. generally pretty good.

another thing is the remake of jay-z american gangster. its pretty sweet with some nice smooth beats and the tight flows from american gangster. there has been added a few appearances to each song. the name of the cd is black caesar. you can download the whole album here (link)

in other news i am pretty hyped for the new n*e*r*d cd, they have a new single out "everyone nose". its not the best song, i do enjoy the video, but the remix is mad. the remix has lupe fiasco, pharell and kanye west spitting hot verses. you can find it on pharells blog (link). here is the video

here is an interesting video of obama talking about basketball. the interesting part is in the end when he talks about how basketball fits into the african american culture. but i also appreciate the the way he is described, not as a black man, but as a bi-racial person. the american media (as most of the world) focus on him being black. but really he is bi-racial. i dont fully agree with him on all his political stances (do i with anyone?), but he does have a pleasant demeanor. here is the video:

i have blogged about this before. but i just read an 'old' article about bahais in iran and the persecution that they are facing. in this bbc article (link), there are reports that four members of the bahai faith were jailed for proselytizing in shiraz. it says the were proselytizing under the guise of helping the poor. wow! here is the bahai news services report about the case, accompanied by amnesty internationals and the us state departments call for their release (link) and (link). as bahais we are encouraged to be philanthropists (definition link) and i guess that is not a positive action in iran. at the same time the young bahais in iran are banned from higher institutions of learning (link).

all these things come to show that the iranian government is instituting systematic policies to ruin the fabric of the bahai community in iran.

in light of these crimes against the bahais in iran, it is nice to see that there are people who through peaceful methods are trying to promote change. one of my friends shariar from new zealand is creating a art piece to create awareness around this project (only for facebook members link). where he uses the visual arts to create awareness around the problem. so i ask you to keep these facts in mind when looking at the iranian government.

on a better note, favorite my danish football team aab is currently number one and looking like they will win the danish championship. so shout out to them.

i remember reading ?uestlove from the roots, talking about that he was unhappy that andre from outkast had beat him to making the first black modern pop rock song, when 'dre made "hey ya!". now i think the roots finally managed to make a pop rock song that topped "the seed 2.0":

i spent last weekend in berlin, where i met with jared - a good friend from my service in haifa. none of us had been there before, which had its challenges and blessings. it was a great experience, we walked everywhere and experienced a city many contrast. the new modern architecture around the center of town, stood in great contrast to the communist style architecture in other parts of town. my experience of germany is that it is very aware of its history, the jewish museum fx., which showed how the jews had been persecuted for many generations before the holocaust. this unselfconsciousness is something i find that admirable.

i enjoyed the street art which was all over the city, as well as i enjoyed the museums displaying classical and modern art. it was refreshing to go to museums and walk the streets, where i was able to experienced different styles of art.

i managed to take a few pictures (link) while i was there and i hope that they can convey part of my experience.

i will definitely be going to back to berlin, where i will go and re-experience the places i enjoyed. next up my bachelors project on the political discourse on hijabs in denmark. holla

it has been a while since i posted anything on this blog. i dont know why, but i guess i lost the motivation during exams and then i forgot that i had this thing. i havent changed much since last time i posted, still in denland, still studying pol. sci., i guess its really all the same.

i have managed to travel a little since last time i posted. i went to the us for a week to see the family - good times were had (link). i also enjoyed a good time at the vikings conference in oulu, finland. before that i spent a couple of days in helsinki with ginger - where bettina showed up for a day as well (link). good times.

some of you may have heard about the football player sean taylor being shot and dieing last week. he was a major topic of conversation in nfl last week and will continue to be for a least the rest of the season. i surfing the nets i found this video of deion sanders, my favorite player when i was a kid, talking about the feelings in the league and his own feelings.

i think deion really has an important point with stopping the black on black crime and that society needs to do something about it. i am not sure if the nfl network guy is dense or if it he is trying to get deion to talk - i do hope he is smarter than he sounds. another thing is, that i think deion brings some clearity to the issue of the vick scandal, his point being, people are more important than animals. i do agree with deions premise, but we as humans should never forget, that we have a great responsibility to show respect and protect to all of Gods creations.

Sometimes there i question why i like the website FreeDarko, but when they do a post where they compare the characterization of players as either hard work/blue collar with lazy rich/bourgeois, there is really no reason for not loving them. they are awesome at finding different angles to sports than the ones that the usual sports writers find. anyone can write about some game, but finding actual themes in the sports writing on a macro level is really cool. so please dont hate on the intellectuals, instead enjoy their brilliance. read the post HERE

the cradle of the bahai faith - iran - has been persecuting the bahais since the inception of the faith. in the recent years there as been an increased discrimination of the bahais. on of the many act of discrimination includes expelling bahai students from the universities (and even denying them admittance) based solely upon them being bahais. other act of persecution include the destruction of grave sites, harassment and detainment of bahais, and attacks upon the bahais through the media. this is a grave issue and i hope that anyone who has the opportunity will help stop this and the many injustices which are happening to the bahais of iran.

i saw a link about this amazingly old school mp3 player, its pretty simple: 1. insert sd card w. music on it. 2a. plug headphones in and jam, or 2.b put it in cassette player and jam.

after a longer hiatus i am back. i'll give a short recap of my life for those who actually read this and havent talked to me for a while. as always in bullet form with some pictures.

i managed to get around this summer. i am pretty proud of my efforts. i am also happy for every one of you that i saw.

first i hit up norway - saw the sunnivator and her amazing family. her family is really hospitable always worth a visit, sunniva is pretty nice too. i brought my brother (alx) a long, he is a norway lover - he is probably going to study there.

second was some small country (which is the whipping boy of group f in euro quals.), liechtenstein. seeing as we (dad, alx and i) drove from denland to italy, we needed to stay somewhere on the way. bettina was nice enough to show the whole country. it is a pretty cool sight, definately worth a visit. bettinas family is pretty nice too.

i would like to make this statement: i love italy. this is despite all the obvious faults the italians have - which actually is a part of the amazing charm of this country. my italian is horrible, i understand a few words and people understand a few of my words. saw some bahais, all were late - meaning i had to stand and look pretty lost in both siena and bologna. they have nice train stations. thanks.
my family and friends of the family showed up from all over the western hemisphere to celebrate my parents collective 100th birthday for a week. which was awesome.

lastly i managed to go home to greenland and see the mountains and enjoy the rain. when it doesnt rain nuuk is one of the most amazing cities and everything comes alive. people everywhere smiling and enjoying it. i also managed to become quite proficient at playing wii golf and tennis. might have to invest in one of those...

i would recommend that everyone who likes rap, to listen to kanye's new cd "graduation". good cd, still trying to find a favorite song on there and decipher the lyrics. but i like "good morning", "good life" "homecoming" and "the glory". i am not keen on the song with mos def "drunk & hot girls" and "stronger" lives on the strength of the sample from daft punk (everyone who has slept on daft punk's "discovery" should listen to that cd immidiately)

in other news i am still in århus studying political science. i have heard this will be a hard semester, we have 3 courses: 2 mandatory, policy analysis and public management. and i am taking a course about cost-benefit analysis as a scientific phenomenon (we will be reading a book called "global crisis, global solutions"). the last course will be interesting, the first course is ok too. public management is not that interesting. at least i will be able to prioritize between global issues when i am done with this semester.

How do you describe a 2-week escape from school? Well, I would say pretty nice! I just went to the states, where I was in Texas, Tampa and Chicago. I managed to see more people than I imagined.

When I was 14-16 I lived with my aunt (Tia) Grace, my uncle Mark and my two cousins (Amanda and Curtis); while I was going to high school there. It was a learning experience and but I had way too much homework and too little spare time. The real reason that I decided I needed to go the states, was that I hadn’t seen my family for almost 3 years and I feared it would be even longer if I didn’t do something about it. SO, I went there. My cousins are awesome and they have grown into such cool kids. I wish that I could be there with them as they grow even more. My Danish cousin Natascha is staying with my American side for a year, it seems to be a great family tradition. Enough mindless writing about my family, here is a list of the best parts of my whole trip (in no specific order):

Seeing the cousins and then making sure they wouldn’t miss me by teasing them as much as possible.
Chaperoning Curtis’ class to the Texas capitol building (fun fact about the Texas capitol: it is larger than the national capitol and equipped with a goddess (not statue) of liberty – I guess everything is bigger in texas)
Listening to “Screw You, We’re From Texas” by Ray Wylie Hubbard on the radio, on Texas Independence Day (march 2^nd) (Link to someone using the chorus in a clip)
Spending time with Stefani in Florida and meeting her family and dog.
Waiting for Jared who was two days delayed in coming to Texas – only to have him experience the worst weather Texas has experienced all year, when there had been 82 degrees the two days before he arrived. (Jared would probably say that Texas is the most self-loving state in the USA, based on the fact that the amount of Texan flags dwarfing the amount of American flags. Well screw you we’re from texas!)
Seeing Chicago, a pretty nice town – I was in awe of the tall buildings (including the Sears Tower).
Seeing my Uncle Mark with long hair… and spending quality time with him.
Wearing shorts for almost a week straight and not freezing while doing so.
Spending a day with Abuelita (my grandmother) in San Antonio.
Calling Omeed on skype with Jared – even though he barely could hear us – it was exactly like old times. All we needed was to conference the White Man (Bendershot) and Sam in.
Sleeping the day away to be able to have second dinner, since I skipped lunch because of the fast.
Spending time in the airports of Copenhagen, Stockholm, Chicago, Tampa, Memphis, St. Louis, Atlanta and Austin… Especially Austin because of the loud country music.
Eating: Brisket, Mexican food, a polish, fried chicken, Chicago style pizza, Chinese, sonics, shamrock shakes and all the other great American foods I managed to have while I was in the USA.
Seeing Joey Lample and Jared’s sister Sabrina again and meeting some other Bahá'ís who I hope to see again.
Driving in Texas and Florida – especially the wide Texan roads, everything is bigger and better in Texas.
Seeing Tia, she is like a second mother to me. Enough said!

This is in no way a wholesome description of my trip, but it will have to suffice.

Jeg bruger forholdvis meget tid på at surfe internettet, jeg læser næsten altid bloggen FreeDarko - som handler om basketball. Den er næsten altid interessant og den har et spændende perspektiv på basket (en stor fokus på stil).

Hver eneste gang jeg fortæller en person jeg læser statskundskab, får jeg det samme spørgsmål: hvad kan man så bruge det til? Svaret skal blandt andet findes i FreeDarko. FreeDarko gør opmærksom på bogen "Wage of Wins" og de konklusioner som den kommer frem til. FreeDarko og bogen bruger ting jeg har lært i 3 af mine fag. Det er økonomi, metode (nogen ville kalde det statistik) og idéhistorie/videnskabsteori. WoW (skal ikke forvirres med World of Warcraft) undersøger det statistiske sammenhæng mellem hvor produktive spillere er - i forhold til et produktivitetsmål de har lavet - og deres løn. I opsum, finder de at højst betalte spillere er dem der skyder mest - ikke altid de mest produktive.

Jeg synes at det er en interessant måde, at bruge både statistisk og økonomi i forhold til en sportsgren. Det vil jeg muligvis kunne gøre om et par år - det vil jeg ikke udelukke.

Nårhh, jeg håber I får lyst til at undersøge FreeDarkos artikel nærmere for at se hvordan de ser på WoW. Jeg forholder mig neutral indtil jeg har læst bogen.

If you have never listened to or heard of Black Star, you need to pull yourself together and make sure you check these guys out. Black Star is the combination of Mos Def (now rapper turned actor - I think many black folks should thank Will Smith for breaking a major barrier, I wanna compare him to Jackie Robinson) and Talib Kweli. Mos and Kweli started out underground and have become major, they made Black Star after doing some Soundbombing. After some Soundbombing for Rawkus, they got together and made their only official CD together. Check out their apperance on the Chappelle Show and their great classic song "Respiration" featuring another great rapper Common. It is always nice to hear rappers who have something decent to tell the world.

Nu hvor jule tamtam'en er ovre vil jeg sende denne forsinkede jule hilsen til jer alle - inden det bliver nytår. Det første jeg vil dele med jer er en "fætter-kusine sang" som Micahala, Alexander og jeg lavede til vores kusine Natascha til jul.

Det næste jeg har fundet er nogle spillere fra Detroit Pistons basketholds julehilsen, de er også gode til at synge.

KNA Connected

Check out KNA Connected. One of the group members is Khalil, a great Bahá'í who happens to have a great flow to go along with nice rhymes - he is the tall light-skinned brotha. The three guys in KNA Connected are all residing in Denmark, they do a great live preformance to go with their music (Saw them at "Operaen" - right Chris?).

I was watching my favorite tv show (on MTV), top ten at ten, and then I saw KNA Connected. It was top ten danish bands, pretty impressing to see them there. Here is the video, the danish remix of their song "Fibs".

Now that I'm in the business of recommending things, I going to recommend going to the movies to watch the new Bond movie.

Not only because two of the actors in the movie are danish (Le Chiffre played by Mads Mikkelsen and Mr. White by Jesper Christensen), but because it is a good movie. I like the whole idea of telling the story of how Bond became Bond. Much like "Batman Begins", it is a great way to reintroduce it with a new actor to us younger fans. The movie is like your typical Bond movie: hot cars, hot girls and great action scenes. But Daniel Craig, much like the new Batman, brings a more rugged persona to James Bond - thereby making him more realistic. If you don't like action movies or Bond movies this movies is not for you. Casino Royale has the usual Bond plot, which actually has its charm, and it also has some twist you don't expect.

The movie is also banking on the poker craze that has hit the world the last couple of years. Hate it or love it...

This whole blog post of a list of artist I like, has grown from a wish to write a review of the Roots new CD "Game Theory" - so first is a short review "Game Theory"
For some reason I have been straying away from the CD shops lately and therefore haven't picked up the real CD. Instead I downloaded "Game Theory" on iTunes Musicstore. I have downloaded multiple full CDs through the Musicstore and I love it! It is great for a instant gratificationist (is that a word?) like me. iTunes Musicstore is an awesome addition to modern consumer culture, the internet has provided and continues to provide great ways for lazy people to stay up on everything and spending money without having to leave comfort zone being their (in my case) beloved computer. Now on to the review (in unprioritized bulletform):

The Roots mix the CD with slower tracks and seriously speedy tracks - check the songs "Game Theory" "Here I Come", where they push the speed, some what like what they did in "Rolling with Heat" off Phrenology.
They keep the good ol' Roots sound, jazzy beats mixed with melodic singing. The return of that makes the CD worthwhile. Thats one of the things that fans (myself included) missed from Phrenology. Some people say it is the effect of not having (now superproducer) Scott Storch onboard for the CD
Black Thought is as thoughtful as ever in his rhymes. The mixture of songs seems not to bother him, but they really enhance his rhymes skills - he has skilz! Love his flow!
I appreciate the tribute to J. Dilla, but the the end of the song is too long. It is a great beat, but they should make the rest a hidden track.
One thing I have been missing from the "new" Roots is the homogenity the old CDs had, if you want to know why the Roots are among the best hip-hop bands of all time, purchase (or borrow them from me) the following Roots CDs from me: "Things Fall Apart" and "Do You Want More?!!!??!"

All in all, the CD recieves a 4/6 from me, they did well and continue to do well. But I'm still stuck in the old school.

Next is Nas an Jay-Z, two great rappers, they have the amazing gift that they are still alive - compared to the two who stole limelight form their early careers, Tupac and Notorious B.I.G.. Their debut albums are probably my two favorite albums ever and they have continued to keep the same high standards. Jigga has gone on to being, probably, the richest and most powerful rapper ever. Nas fell off, but kept his own when he was beefing with Jigga. For Nas' best listen to "Illmatic", and check out "Reasonable Doubt","Unplugged" (with the Roots as band)"The Blueprint"(the CD that established Kanye West as a producer) for Jay-Z' best. But both have been an integral part of defining newer hip-hop and rap.

Onto rock, the Strokes! These guys are awesome. My brother Omeed says "They probably have the best bass in rock." And I agree, they have created two great CDs and one very good one. Enough said! Listen to all 3 of their CDs, chronologically, if you like the indie rock type of music (my mom doesn't). This is music to get you going, I listen to this or AC/DC if i need extra energy for my morning bike ride. Also listen to Bloc Party, the Killers and Franz Ferdinand if you like that type of music.

Some danish rock artist that are very worthwhile, Kashmir, Dizzy Mizz Lizzy (and later Tim Christensen) and Mew. They are all good rock bands and I enjoy listening to them. Mew has a sound like probably no other band, so thats the one band you really should listen to. The other two are just classic bands, really thats all they are CLASSIC bands.

Listing all these artist makes me want to list more. But I will save this for another time. Hopefully this should make you want to check out some of the artist and buy their CDs or go to their shows. If this post could make you want never check my blog again, I understand you.

I will end the post with a shout-out to my former co-workers in Bahá'í World Center Kitchen, whose music has inspired me and expanded my musical universe - like Cocio, you gotta love them! Miss you Manu!

Keeping the boycott

After reading the news about some workers in a KB in New Mexico, I've found another reason to boycott Kurger Bing. They placed cannabis in the burgers of two cops (link). Yep, I loved eating there, but their fall from grace just continues.

Jf. Politiken.dk artikelen om nogle unge fyre som syntes at det var sjovt at placere cannabis i en burger, hos to politibetjente. Jeg mener at folk kan gøre lige hvad de vil for at skade sig selv, men det er vel direkte dumt at forsøge at gøre politifolk skæve. Håber ikke det går udover KB, men at de 3 idioter får en rimelig lærestreg.

Today, Niklas (my roomie) and I, were going home from our local Føtex (a grocery store) and observed these awesome rainbows! I decided to inaugurate my new camera, with some shots the double rainbow action.

I live in the third building from the right. So if you ever are around, you are more than welcome to drop by. Or as the danish rapper Johnson would say: "Kig forbi!"...

These pictures fail to do the rainbows justice, they were awesome! But I feel compelled to share them with you (whomever "you" might be).

This is to keep my church membership... It was sunset-time, couldn't help myself....

Mad og min mave

Min mave knurrer, hvorfor det?

Har jeg ikke spist? Eller er den sur?

Jeg tog da en stor tallerken med mad.

Så meget og så sundt som maden var, hvorfor er den sur?

Køleskabet er fyldt med mad, jeg har lige købt ind.

Men gider jeg at gå hele vejen derind?

Det kræver både energi og en masse vilje.

Med smerten som min mave giver, vinder den snart!

Hvis jeg skriver dette digt, vinder min hjerne over min mave.

Jeg skriver videre selvom min krop siger: stop!

Hvad er det der er så godt ved mad?

Er det bare fordi at vi ved vi skal spise det?

Nu tror jeg at min mave hader min hjerne

Den kan jo øje køleskabet i det fjerne

It has been a while since I posted something, but I have been without access to the worlwide web, from home, for a few weeks now. Here I am in Nuuk enjoying a Cocio and the view on our veranda

At the moment I am at home at my parents house living off the fat of the land. This time I will be here for 5 weeks. It is great to see Nuuk - I like it more and more every time I come back - it is also great to see the people you only see once or twice a year.
My grandmother - Abuelita - will be visiting Nuuk while I'm here, Inger-Cecilie a good family friend will be visiting too and my brother will be gracing me with his presence for all of 5 days.
For my stay here, I have been lucky enough to get a job in the Home-Rule Government. I'm a studenthelper and I have yet to make coffee - believe it or not...

Kids in Tasiilaq - You gotta love 'em!

As you may or may not know, I spent 3 weeks in Tasiilaq, East Greenland, with my good friends Ben and Omeed. We spent our time with the Bahá'í community there and we volunteered at a free daycare Red Barnet. At Red Barnet we met many kids, they were loving and kind, Ben and Omeed managed to have a great time dispite the language barrier.

One day we each recieved somewhere between 10 and 15 small drawings as gifts from the children and we tried to give the children a few drawings in return.

The pictures should give you a small glimpse of the children in Greenland - enjoy!

During Omeed’s moving speech he was found nodding his head while rivers of tears streamed down his face.

Forfølgelse og Undertrykkelse af Bahá'íerne i Iran

Her kommer et forsinket indlæg… Jeg vil bare kort gøre opmærksom på det systematiske forfølgelse og undertrykkelse der sker af Bahá'íerne i Iran. Siden Bahá'í troens fødsel i 1844, har de Bahá'íer som levede i Iran været forfulgt og siden revolutionen, i 1979, er over 200 Bahá'íer blevet dræbt af det Iranske præstestyre. Der har været flere FN resolutioner mod denne forfølgelse, som dog ikke har ændret på det. Blandt andet er det på nuværende tidspunkt ikke muligt for Bahá'íer, bosiddende i Iran, at få en universitetsuddannelse - da der lovgivning som gør det ulovligt for Bahá'íer at tage uddannelse på Iranske universiteter. Den 20. marts 2006 udtalte en af FNs special rapportør for menneskerettigheder, om hendes frygt for medlemmerne af Bahá'í troen forfølgelse. Jeg vil ikke sige mere end det, men hvis der er interesse for at undersøge sagen nærmere har jeg sat nogle links i bunden af siden.

Bad Service = Boycott

I promised my friend Jesper Isbo to post this, after our trip around Århus and trip to Kurger Bing. Basically we had been standing in line for about 10 min in KB and then we se that the line next to us is practically empty, so we move over (to tell the story truthfully, I forced Jesper over). As we get to the front of the new line, and are about to happily make our order, the girl standing at the register leaves. We think, "fine she will be right back", but no! 5 min later we are still standing there waiting. So at that point we do the analysis - stay in this line or get to the back of the line in our old line. Well to make this sad story short, we stayed - out of principal, I must add. I think we were in the line for about 15 more minutes, during which Isbo was constantly telling me how much he hated me and that he was going to kill me. After those aggrevating 20 min (during which I must have been in some sort of shock, since I didn't complain - loudly) we decided to change back to our old line. So after about 35 min of waiting we get our burgers. As it turns out the girl had gone for lunch without even closing her register... The ultimate outcome of this story is that I am boycotting KB. When it comes to junk food only shawarma, falafal and pizza from here on out - not even McDs can tempt me.

Playoff time again...

So here I am again, it is NBA playoff time and I am again stuck in a remote part of the world and about 8 time zones away from the action. Many of you are thinking: Denmark isn't remote, is it? Well, NBA-wise it is pretty remote. All I want to do is watch Kobe go for 50 points against the Clippers in the next round, maybe see the Pistons Team kill their opponents and who wouldn't mind watching Eva Longoria cheering for Tony Parker (and the Spurs)? Thats what I want to see. After my good ol' days in Texas, with Monday, Tuesday Thursdays on TNT, I have been able to catch about one NBA game a year. Not satisfying!

This season I been keeping up with the NBA action all year, thanks to ESPN Motion (you can see the sportscenter clips for free the next day). It has been great to at least be able to see the highlights. So yeah, Denmark when are you going to start showing the NBA games, on one of the 25 cabel channels I have in my dorm?

I guess the best news right now is that the World Cup is coming up. Even without Denmark it is going to rock!

If you are wondering who I support, all I am going to say is that my favorite player scored 81 points in four quarters...

Endelig er det sket! Min Onkel Jørn er blevet gift med min Tante Sif! Efter at have set hinanden an i næsten 23 år, blev de borgerligt viet i lørdags. Det var en smuk dag med høj sol. Som gæst blev man kørt i gennem en masse mad - både en frokost og en festmiddag. Det var en glædelig dag, det hjalp virkeligt at mine forældre og min bro' var der. Det er jo så sjældent at man ser dem når man bor hernede i det Danske land. Endnu engang tillykke!
